Our routines remain important, but distance changes perspective. Wealth, status and possessions become small beside the question of why conscious life exists at all.

One galaxy among an immense creation.
The journey does not demand an instant conclusion. It asks the visitor to examine whether the universe is self-explanatory, self-created, produced by absolute nothing, or dependent on an uncreated cause.
BEYOND THE MILKY WAY
Not the only island in the sea.
Our galaxy is one of roughly 54 known galaxies bound together by gravity in what astronomers call the Local Group โ a small neighbourhood in a much larger structure.
The nearest large spiral galaxy, roughly 2.5 million light-years away and home to an estimated one trillion stars. It is slowly falling toward the Milky Way.
Beyond Andromeda sits the smaller Triangulum Galaxy, along with dozens of dwarf galaxies โ together forming the Local Group.
If the Milky Way's 100โ400 billion stars already strain the imagination, the Local Group is only the first ring of an unfolding scale.
CLUSTERS OF ISLANDS
Clusters within clusters.
Zoom out further and galaxies themselves gather into clusters of hundreds โ even thousands โ held together across tens of millions of light-years.
Around 1,300โ2,000 galaxies roughly 54 million light-years away, the nearest large galaxy cluster to our own.
Our entire Local Group is only a minor outlying member of this far larger supercluster of galaxy clusters.
Discovered in 2014, Laniakea โ Hawaiian for "immeasurable heaven" โ is the even greater supercluster of roughly 100,000 galaxies that contains the Virgo Supercluster.
WITHOUT COUNTING
Beyond counting.
Current estimates place roughly two trillion galaxies within the observable universe alone โ and that is only the portion whose light has had time to reach us.
A 2016 Hubble-based study estimated roughly two trillion galaxies within the observable universe โ far more than the roughly 100โ200 billion once assumed.
Galaxies are not scattered evenly. They trace a vast cosmic web of filaments surrounding enormous empty voids โ the largest known structure in existence.
"Observable" is not the same as "all that exists." It marks only the edge of what light has had time to reach us in 13.8 billion years โ not a boundary of the universe itself.
THE EDGE OF SIGHT
Only black, and dust.
Push out far enough and even galaxies thin into silence โ scattered dust, drifting light, then nothing your eyes can resolve. This is as far as looking can take you.

You have travelled from a single spinning planet to a web of trillions of galaxies, and out past the edge of what can be seen at all โ and still, this is only what can be measured. An argument for an ultimate, uncreated cause does not by itself settle every question. It opens the next one: what would such a cause be like, and would it communicate?
